Accomplishments of Past Chapter Regents
The chapter had an American Flag flown over Fort Halifax on July 4, 1913, for the first time in history.
A gavel made of wood taken from the fort, banded in silver, was presented to the chapter.
In 1914, an American Flag was placed on Fort School House, built in 1819.
Began plans to mark Arnold’s Trail.
A tablet was placed marking Arnold’s Trail.
Our chapter sponsored the 150th anniversary of Winslow on May 23, 1921.
1921-1923 ♦ Mary H. Reynolds
The chapter placed nine markers and four headstones on American Revolutionary War soldiers’ graves.
1923-1925 ♦ Susan B. Patterson
Our chapter incorporated and received the deed for Fort Halifax on June 23, 1924. The governor of Maine attended the unveiling ceremony.
“This tablet marks the only remaining Block House belonging to Fort Halifax, erected 1754, and placed by Fort Halifax Chapter, D.A.R. June 2, 1924”

The chapter planted shrubs on the lawn of the public library, in memory of the charter member who was the first librarian in the town of Winslow.

Regretfully, the chapter deeded Fort Halifax over to the State of Maine.

Our chapter float won a prize in the Bicentennial parade for Winslow, and we celebrated our 60th anniversary.
Past Chapter Regent Florence Smiley mentioned that her grandmother, mother, and aunt were all chapter members. Her five daughters have now joined the chapter.

We rededicated the Arnold Trail Marker, which was placed on Lithgow Street in 1919.
Our parade float had everyone in costume.
1977-1980 ♦ Helen Carr Hussey
Fort Halifax Chapter, NSDAR, marked the grave of Honorary State Regent Beatrice White.
1986-1989 ♦ Barbara Smiley Healy
Celebrated the bicentennial of the Constitution with the Winslow Public Library and the Winslow Historical Society. The mayor presented the chapter with a proclamation.
