Welcome to the Hannah Weston Chapter, NSDAR! 

We are located in Machias, Maine, the site of the Battle of the Margaretta which took place on June 11-12, 1775.  Our chapter is the proud caretaker of the historic Burham Tavern, built in 1770 and known for its significant role in the American Revolution.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization comprising 3,000 chapters and over 185,000 members.

The Hannah Weston Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on February 12, 1901, with 15 charter members. Hannah Weston Chapter, NSDAR, was named for the Revolutionary War heroine, Hannah Watts Weston, who with her sister Rebecca, carried powder, and lead and pewter to make ammunition with, through 16 miles of wilderness for the men who were engaged in the first naval battle of the war, which took place in the waters of Machias Bay.

Historic Preservation

One of the main focuses of the mission of DAR. Our members participate in a wide variety of historic preservation projects as it is crucial to saving our history for future generations.

Education

Patriotism 
For 125 years,  Daughters of the American Revolution have carried the torch of patriotism. Patriotism is the foundation of the many DAR activities that take place in local communities across the country.
