Benjamin Foster

Colonel Benjamin Foster

A bronze tablet was erected by Hannah Weston Chapter, NSDAR, to the memory of DAR Patriot Colonel Benjamin Foster (1726-1818), a veteran of three wars, who in 1765 built a log cabin, then the most eastern habitation in New England. This tablet also commemorates the service in peace and war of Wooden Foster, one of the original proprietors of Machias Township. He was the first blacksmith in the settlement and prominent in all its affairs and served as a private in the regiment commanded by his brother Benjamin.
