The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization comprising 3,000 chapters and over 185,000 members.

Lady Knox Chapter NSDAR participates in numerous patriotic projects and events including Knox Day, Wreaths Across America, The Fourth of July Parade, Memorial Day ceremonies and flag placement at veteran’s graves. The chapter supports active military and veterans and supports wounded service personnel through the DAR Project Patriot. The chapter also serves as a Vietnam War Commemorative Partner and offers two programs annually specifically dedicated to topics related to the Vietnam War era. Lady Knox Chapter NSDAR’s historic preservation projects include annual historic holiday displays at the General Henry Knox Museum in Thomaston, ongoing work at National Register of Historic places site:  Tolman Cemetery in Rockland, and partnership projects with historical societies throughout Knox County, Maine. Education

Education

Lady Knox Chapter NSDAR supports education by providing The DAR Good Citizens Award and Essay Contest, The DAR Christopher Columbus Essay Contest, and the DAR American History Essay Contest at area schools. Many of our members donate time as tutors or volunteers in local schools. The chapter involves children in service projects, activities, parades and ceremonies that help prepare them for active citizenry later on. Lady Knox Chapter NSDAR provides adult educational opportunities that foster an enlightened public opinion with free, public lectures on a variety of topics ranging from history to the arts.
