Our Chapter
Our chapter has been active in Lewiston, Maine, since 1895. With many members over our 125 years, perhaps your mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother was a member. Browse our list of Charter Members, Past Chapter Regents, and our Patriots to see if your relatives are listed.
Our chapter history covers many of the interesting projects we have been involved with. We would love to have you join us as we prepare to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of America!
A few of the projects:
- Our members were instrumental in the creation of the Androscoggin Historical Society.
- Our chapter was an early supporter of Opportunity Farm.
- In 1915, Mary Dillingham Chapter, NSDAR placed a large boulder with a bronze marker in Nichols Park in Lewiston in honor of the American Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Androscoggin County. More American Revolutionary War soldiers are honored on a plaque that was placed in the main corridor of the court house in Auburn on September 10, 1921.
- Our chapter’s fiftieth anniversary was celebrated on April 11, 1945. Many members came in costumes of earlier days which included heirloom gowns, shawls, bonnets, and jewelry. A history of the chapter was read, followed by a musical program and a delicious tea.
- We marked the grave of Julia Wendell Butler, our chapter’s Real Daughter.
