Mount Desert Isle Chapter NSDAR had a wonderful meeting at the beautiful Somesville Library in Mount Desert, Maine. On this National DAR Day of Service, we collected paper products and personal items for the Emmaus Homeless Shelter in Ellsworth, Maine.
October 14, 2015, President General Lynn Forney Young’s “Celebrate America!” cruise ship made a stop in Bar Harbor, Maine.
Three new members were welcomed to a chapter meeting.
Chapter members spent a day at Otter Cliff in Acadia National Park with Boy Scouts, cleaning the Allesandro Fabbri WWI monument. Alessandro Fabbri (1877–1922) was both the builder and the commanding officer of the Otter Cliffs Radio Station, a United States Navy facility that was important during World War I.
Heading to Great Cranberry Isle for a special Mount Desert Isle Chapter NSDAR meeting to honor a 40-year member. Deborah Dyer, Charter Member and Past Chapter Regent, received her forty-year certificate!
Chapter meeting at Bar Harbor Historical Society. In 2018, our chapter sponsored the sixth-grade state winner in the DAR American History Essay Contest and the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest high school state winner.
The Mount Desert Isle Chapter NSDAR annually holds its May meeting at the Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor. This year the curator Star Kelly presented a program featuring some of the beaded acquisitions. Star Kelly is a member of the Algonquin First Nation of Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg in Quebec, and there is a deep history between her ancestors and beadwork.

The Mount Desert Isle Chapter NSDAR held four grave marking ceremonies. Alison Bell, Chaplain presided; Kerry Zimmerman, Regent; Norma Spurling, Vice Regent; Ada Hatch, Registrar; Kay Moore, Secretary; Deborah Dyer; and State Regent and Associate Member Elizabeth Hotchkiss were in attendance.
It was a rainy day, but lovely ceremonies for our departed members.
