Application Process

Membership is a four step process:

1. Finding Your Lineage

Record your findings on the Lineage Chart (PDF). Begin gathering birth, marriage and death records for you, your parents, and your grandparents.

2. Identify Your Patriot Ancestor

Research your lineage with the NSDAR Genealogical Research System (GRS). You can search for Patriots under the Ancestor tab; previous DAR members under the Members tab; and aunts, uncles and grandparents under the Descendants tab.

3. Find a Chapter

Maine is a large state! We have twenty chapters for you to choose from. Our Chapter List has the location of each of our chapters. Or, visit the chapter locator at NSDAR’s website.

4. Application Process

This is the step where everything comes together. Your research and the documents discovered will be inserted into the NSDAR Application. This is where you can begin working with our State Application Team —a specialized group of women who will help you find a chapter and a Patriot.
