Eunice Farnsworth-Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter, NSDAR

Skowhegan, Maine

God, Home, and Country

Located in the heart of Maine, the Eunice Farnsworth – Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter, NSDAR, has Daughters from all over Somerset County.

Our common bond is that we are descendants of those who fought valiantly on the battlefield and in civic roles to make this country a free nation.
This sundial, located in Coburn Park in Skowhegan, was placed by Eunice Farnsworth Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter, NSDAR, in memory of Corporal Buckman and other WW1 soldiers from Skowhegan. It was dedicated in 1920 and rededicated in 2018.

National Society Daughters of the American Revolution

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, (NSDAR or DAR) have dedicated themselves to historic preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotic endeavors. These goals are as relevant in today’s society as they were when the organization was founded in 1890.

Volunteering is a main focus for Daughters. We volunteer in various ways in our community including supporting military members and their families as well as veterans and local veteran homes. DAR also gives scholarships and awards to school children for essay writing on various patriotic topics throughout the year, including the DAR Good Citizens Award which is given to students who are outstanding in areas of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. The DAR started schools in rural and remote areas where education was unavailable. Currently, there are five schools that DAR supports.

DAR has members in over 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older that can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War is eligible for membership. Did you know that Daughters of the American Revolution accepts proven lineage to those who served in many different capacities, including patriotic and civil service, not just Patriots on the battlefield or the sea?

Are you exploring your heritage or think that you have an ancestor who may have served during the American Revolution?  Join us as a guest and experience DAR.
